The biggest upset of the evening was Emma Stone, the star of Poor Things, defeating Lily Gladstone, the first Native American to compete in the best actress category, in the race for best actress.
Gladstone's portrayal of real-life Indigenous woman Mollie Kyle, who was tricked by her husband during the 20th-century Osage murders,
won her a Golden Globe, but Stone had been winning awards, such as a BAFTA and a Critics Choice award, for her portrayal of an adult with a child's brain in Yorgos Lanthimos' dark comedy.
